The MISSION of the Sister Cities Association of Virginia Beach is to foster international friendship, cooperation and meaningful relationships while promoting peace through mutual respect and understanding, one individual, one community at a time.
The City of Virginia Beach acknowledges the importance of Sister City relationships for the purpose of international understanding, friendships, cultural and educational exchanges and economic/tourist development activities.
The Virginia Beach Sister Cities program began as the Mayor’s Sister Cities Commission, with Commissioners being appointed by City Council. To further enhance the Mission and growth, in May, 2010, the Sister Cities Association of Virginia Beach, a designated 501(c)(3)organization, was born. Each Sister City has its own unique Committee and Chair that is a part of the whole. The Board of Directors and Ex Officio Members are made up of people from all walks of life whose passion fits our MISSION.
Virginia Beach’s Sister Cities are:
- Moss, Norway – March 25, 1974
- Miyazaki, Japan – May 25, 1992
- Bangor, North Down, Northern Ireland – May 6, 2001
- Olongapo, Philippines – July 6, 2015
